Chrome Shelf — Close tabs. Keep context.

Last updated: March 31, 2026

Overview

Chrome Shelf is a browser extension that helps you save, organize, and reopen tabs. Your privacy matters — this policy explains what data the extension accesses and how it is handled.

Data Collection

Chrome Shelf does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data.

The extension stores the following information locally on your device using Chrome's built-in storage API:

  • Tab titles and URLs you choose to save
  • Favicon URLs for visual identification
  • Bucket names and organization preferences
  • Timestamps for when items were saved or last opened

Data Storage

All data is stored locally using chrome.storage.local. No data is sent to any external server, third-party service, or analytics platform.

If you sign into Chrome and enable sync, Chrome may sync extension storage data across your devices according to your Chrome settings. This is handled by Chrome itself, not by Chrome Shelf.

Permissions

Chrome Shelf requests the following permissions, each used for a specific purpose:

storageSave your tabs, stacks, and buckets locally
tabsRead the current tab's title and URL when you save it
tabGroupsSave and restore Chrome tab groups as stacks
sidePanelDisplay the extension UI in Chrome's side panel

Third-Party Services

Chrome Shelf does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, advertising, or data-processing services. There are no external network requests made by the extension.

Data Deletion

You can delete all stored data at any time by uninstalling the extension. You can also delete individual items, stacks, or buckets directly within the extension interface.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy is updated, the changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date. The extension itself will not change its data practices without a corresponding update to this policy.
